Just read a report that 40% of false alarms in my county are from motion sensors in kitchens

I found it in our local police department's annual security system report online. They track the calls and break down the causes. It turns out that pets, air vents, and even sunlight through windows can set them off if they're placed wrong. I've been putting them in hallways for years without thinking much about it. Has anyone else seen this kind of data for their area?

Kitchens seem like a weird place for them anyway. I'd rather have one watching the actual doors.

Exactly, kitchens are just for catching your own mess. Point them at entry points only.

Totally agree! We put one in our kitchen when we moved in and it was pointless. It just caught us sneaking midnight snacks. The back door is right there but the camera angle was all wrong to see it. Moved it to face the patio door and the side gate and it actually feels useful now.
