I thought wireless sensors were a bad idea for a long time.

I installed a Honeywell system with their 5800 series sensors in a big old house in Charleston about 5 years ago, and they've been rock solid with zero false alarms. The battery life has held up way better than I expected. What's the oldest wireless setup you guys have out there that's still working perfectly?

Rock solid for 5 years" is great to hear.

But honestly, five years of the same thing sounds kind of boring to me. I mean, @derek656, what if you're just stuck in a rut? Maybe being "rock solid" means you stopped trying new stuff that could be way better. Things change, and what worked five years ago might not be the best now. You could be missing out on real improvements by not shaking things up once in a while. Staying put feels safe, but it can also mean you're not growing at all.

Read an article last week about how some companies get too comfortable. They stick with the same old software or supplier for years just because it works. Then a new company comes along with something faster and cheaper, and they're left scrambling to catch up. It made me wonder if being rock solid is sometimes just an excuse to avoid the hassle of change. When was the last time you actually checked if there's a better option out there?
