Bought the cheap 22/4 wire from a big box store and it cost me a full day
Last month I grabbed two 500 ft spools of 22/4 from a big box store to save about $40 over the supply house, and I'm still kicking myself. Pulled a whole house with it, and three runs tested open on the keypad. Turns out the jacket on that spool was so thin the staples nicked the conductors in the attic, and I had to crawl back up there in a 130 degree Texas attic to find every bad spot. Ended up replacing two of the runs completely, which ate about nine hours I didn't have, plus the wire I couldn't return because the spools were half gone. The supply house wire I've used for years has a heavier jacket and I never had this problem. Lesson learned, but has anyone found a mid-priced 22/4 that actually holds up to staples and attic heat, or am I stuck paying supply house prices forever?
