Vent: dropped $80 on a "lifetime" torque wrench calibration that lasted 4 months
Bought a used click-type torque wrench off a guy in Tacoma for $60 and figured I'd send it out for calibration since it felt loose. The shop charged me $80 and told me it was "brought back to factory spec" with a sticker and a cert sheet. Four months later I'm torquing a fuel line fitting and it never clicks, just keeps turning, so I check it against my buddy's beam wrench and it's reading 22 ft-lbs light at the 40 setting. Sent it back and they told me the calibration only covers the day it leaves the bench and normal use voids it. That's $140 total into a wrench that's now a paperweight in my box. Anyone got a shop near Seattle that stands behind their cal work longer than a business quarter?
Used to figure a cert sheet meant something long term, but now I get everything done at a local speed shop that retests for free within a year. That "covers only the day it leaves the bench" line is a scam and I won't pay for cal work without a written warranty again.
