Tried using a borescope to check cylinder walls and got a false reading that cost me 2 days

Man that's rough, I've been there with a cheap borescope from Amazon that showed scoring that wasn't really there. Tore down a whole cylinder head for nothing once. The lighting on those things can be really deceiving if you don't angle it just right. Now I always double check with a different tool before making any big decisions.

Yeah, @nancygrant that reminds me of when I found a "crack" in my block that was just a smudge.

The lighting thing is no joke lol. I had one of those cheap USB scopes and thought I saw a gnarly scratch in a cylinder wall. Turned out it was just a reflection off the oil film. Now I always shine a separate flashlight from different angles before I even touch the scope. Saves a lot of panic and unnecessary wrenching.
