Shoutout to the old timer who showed me the real weight of a 737 tire

I was helping a guy at the hangar in Tucson swap a main gear tire on a 737-800 last week. He told me a single one of those tires, without the wheel, weighs about 120 pounds. I had no idea they were that heavy, I always figured maybe 70 or 80. Has anyone else been surprised by the actual weight of a specific part you handle all the time?

Wow, that's wild! I was totally thinking the same thing, like maybe 80 pounds max. Makes you respect the guys who swap those things all day!

Honestly grace508, "respect the guys who swap those things" is putting it lightly. My back hurts just thinking about it.

The average car battery weighs about 40 pounds. I tried to lift one once and almost threw my back out. Those guys must have spines made of steel.
