I finally realized I've been over-torquing those tiny avionics panel screws for years

A new guy pointed out the faint stress marks on a few washers after a routine check in Dallas, and it clicked. Anyone else have a 'duh' moment with a specific fastener or tool?

Those stress marks are a good catch. Actually, those tiny screws often call for inch-pounds, not foot-pounds. It's an easy mix-up if you're used to bigger hardware. A lot of guys keep a separate, small torque wrench just for that kind of delicate work. It saves a lot of headaches down the line.

But is it really that big a deal?

Inch-pounds, not foot-pounds? That's a huge difference!
