Had a 5 minute talk with a retired FedEx mechanic that wrecked my head

He told me he never uses safety wire pliers because his hands are faster after 40 years, and now I'm wondering if I've been slowing myself down with tools I don't actually need.

Yo my fingers hurt just reading that! I tried twisting safety wire by hand once with zero calluses and it looked like a drunk spider had a seizure on the bolt. Honestly though that guy must have hands made of concrete after four decades. Meanwhile I'm here using pliers and still manage to stab myself at least once per job haha. Maybe I need to just give up and let the tools win.

40 years of twisting wire by hand without pliers... that's just wild to me. My fingers would be hamburger after the first week trying that. Can't even imagine the calluses that guy must have built up.

Calluses are armor. Let your hands build up slow and you won't need pliers for simple jobs.
