Cracked a fan blade in Denver and then argued with myself about it
I was doing a routine boroscope on a CFM56 in Denver last month, and sure enough there was a nick on one of the fan blades about 2 inches from the tip. I could've filed it down and called it a day, but it was right at the edge of the limit table, so I flagged it for a replacement. My lead said I was being too cautious, the OEM rep said the data was borderline, and I spent 20 minutes going back and forth with myself on which call was right. Ended up replacing it because I'd rather eat the downtime than explain a crack on a red tag later. Has anyone else been in that spot where the tolerance chart is basically a gray zone and you just have to pick a side?
