Overheard someone say air fryers are just convection ovens and it got me thinking

I was at a cookout last weekend and this guy starts going on about how air fryers are just small convection ovens and everyone is wasting money. I mean, sure, the tech is similar but has he tried cooking a frozen chicken tender in a full sized oven for 10 minutes? It takes like 25 minutes minimum and uses way more energy. I guess my takeaway is that air fryers are more about speed and convenience for smaller stuff, not some magical new invention. Anyone else get tired of people gatekeeping kitchen gadgets like this?

Man that guy at the cookout sounds like he really wanted to be the smartest person in the room, which is always annoying. Its true air fryers are basically just tiny convection ovens, but the whole point is that tiny part. You get that same crispy texture way faster and with less cleanup, which is huge for someone like me who barely has energy to cook after work. The gatekeeping is exhausting too, like let people enjoy their gadgets without acting like you invented the concept of hot air.

Ten minutes for a chicken tender?" That's wild, I'm droppin' mine in for like 6 and they're perfect.
