My sister told me I was wasting the air fryer on frozen fries

We were at a family cookout last Sunday and I was heating up a bag of store bought fries. She looked at me and said, 'You know, that thing can actually cook real food, right?' She showed me her phone with a recipe for crispy chickpeas she made from a can. It hit different because I spent $90 on this appliance and I've literally only ever put frozen stuff in it for the past six months. I felt kind of dumb, like I bought a sports car just to drive to the mailbox. So now I'm trying to branch out. Has anyone got a super simple first recipe that isn't just reheating something from a box?

Honestly that whole "using the fancy tool for the basic job" thing is everywhere once you start looking. It's like buying the expensive coffee maker just for the hot water button, you know? For the air fryer, try cutting some baby potatoes in half. Toss them in a tiny bit of oil and salt, then cook them. They come out crispy outside and soft inside, and it feels way more like actual cooking than just heating a bag.

You're right, @nancy475, that's the best use for it.

Remember that fancy garlic press I bought years ago? It's still in the box because peeling and smashing a clove with a knife is just easier. Your air fryer potato idea, @nancy475, sounds like the rare case where the gadget actually makes the simple thing better. I guess the trick is finding which fancy tool actually earns its spot on the counter instead of just looking smart. My kitchen cabinet is basically a museum of good intentions at this point.
