Learned about preheating the hard way at a church potluck
I brought air fryer chicken wings to our church potluck last Sunday. I didn't preheat the air fryer first and they came out soggy instead of crispy. Everyone was polite about it but I could tell they were disappointed. Now I always run it empty for 3 minutes before putting food in. Has anyone else messed up a batch by skipping the preheat?

Maybe it's just me but 3 minutes of preheating seems like overkill for something that mostly just needs to get hot oil on the food. Idk, soggy wings could also be from overcrowding or not patting them dry enough.

Oh man, @tara_jones94, you're totally right! I did the same thing with my air fryer wings for a family dinner. I skipped preheating and they came out so sad and floppy. Now I always give it a quick warm up, but I think patting them dry is a game changer too.

Ugh, the floppy wings thing is the worst. I've been there too, totally feel your pain. Patting them dry really is a total game changer though, makes all the difference.
