Found a shocking stat about cooking spray in air fryers

I read on a food science blog that using spray oil in an air fryer can eat away at the coating over time, and now I'm wondering if my basket is slowly getting ruined after 8 months of daily use.

8 months of daily use in an air fryer is a lot, but aerosol propellants are what damage the nonstick more than the oil itself, just switch to a pumped mister.

And @terry_jones is probably seeing this and realizing it's the same kind of hidden wear and tear we deal with all the time. It's like how people think using a dry paper towel on a screen is fine but it'll eventually scratch the coating. The aerosol thing is just another example of something small that adds up fast. Pumped misters are way easier on the basket and you don't have to worry about the chemicals eating away at the finish over time.

Wait, aerosol propellants actually degrade the nonstick coating? I always thought it was just the oil itself causing the buildup.
