Read that Google's AI can now make phone calls for you - is that helpful or creepy?
I saw a demo where their AI booked a haircut appointment and the person on the other end had no idea it wasn't a real human. On one hand, that saves time and could help folks who struggle with phone anxiety. On the other, if every robocall starts sounding like my neighbor, how do we even trust a phone call anymore? Curious where you guys draw the line on this stuff.

My buddy got a call from what sounded EXACTLY like his mom last week asking about dinner plans, it was a spam AI clone of her voice. Now he texts her a code word before every phone call.

Whoa, that's terrifying! Honestly @the_holly, your buddy's code word idea is genius but also makes me realize how unprepared I am. I'd probably end up texting my mom the wrong word and then she'd think I got kidnapped or something, lol. Like I can barely remember my own passwords, there's no way I'm keeping a secret family code straight. But seriously, this AI voice stuff is getting way too good, it's such a creepy world we live in now.

This whole AI clone thing is just the latest version of a pattern where technology gets good enough to break basic trust we used to take for granted. I already double check every email from my bank because of phishing, now we gotta second guess whether a phone call is actually our own mom. Feels like we're all slowly being trained to question everything and that's not really a healthy way to live.
