That tip about adding 'in the style of a Renaissance painting' really paid off
A user named ArtBot2023 told me to try 'Renaissance painting' prompts for my AI mashups after my cat-dragon looked like a cartoon. I added it to a prompt mixing a steam engine and a sunflower, and the result looked like something from a museum. Has anyone else found a specific style prompt that always works better than others?

Repeating the same style prompt over and over is a shortcut to boring results, isn't it? Renaissance painting works great for some things but it's a crutch if you lean on it too much. I've seen people use "photorealistic" or "oil painting" for everything and their images all start to blend together. Mixing up styles is what keeps AI art interesting and surprising. You got lucky with one prompt, but the real trick is knowing when to ignore the advice. Maybe try "sketch" or "watercolor" next time and see if it changes things up in a good way.

Three tries with "Renaissance painting" gave me one good result and two muddy messes where the steam engine looked like a blob. So I'm curious, @simonh74, what's a style prompt you've found that actually delivers something surprising more often than not? I messed around with "sketch" last week and got a horse that looked like it was drawn by a five year old, so I'm wondering what you'd swap in for Renaissance without it turning into a total crap shoot.
