Hot take: Is an AI mashup better when it's a total mess or when it actually works?

I was messing around with an AI art generator last night and tried to mash up a French bulldog with a croissant. The first result was a blob with ears and flaky layers that looked cursed in the best way. My buddy said that failed attempt was way funnier than the clean version I made later where the dog actually looked like a croissant with legs. I'm torn because half the fun of these mashups is seeing the AI completely miss the mark and create something bizarre. But then you also get those moments where it nails the combo and it's strangely satisfying to look at. Where do you draw the line between a funny accident and a good mashup? Has anyone else found that the glitchy ones get more laughs than the polished ones?

My rottweiler crossed with a waffle cone gave me a brown lump with a crispy edge that looked like a burnt waffle from hell. That got way more likes than the clean version where it looked like a waffle with dog ears and a tail. The messy one felt like the AI was guessing what I wanted and guessing wrong in a hilarious way. So for me the glitchy ones win every time because they surprise you more than the polished stuff.

Used to think the clean AI generations were the whole point, but your story about the burnt waffle lump really changed my mind. There is something special about those weird, messy results that feel like the machine is almost trying but missing in a funny way. They have a personality the polished versions just don't have.
