Tried drafting a client contract myself versus using a template from my state bar, big mistake!

I had a new client in Austin and thought I could save $300 by writing the agreement myself instead of buying the official template. The client tried to argue the payment terms were 'unclear' and almost walked, but the bar template had a specific clause that shut it down immediately. Has anyone else had a simple template save a deal from falling apart?

My friend tried to write a lease for his rental property to save cash. The tenant argued about the security deposit rules for weeks. He finally bought the state form and it cleared everything up in one page.

Honestly just buy the template, it saves so much headache later.
