The one clause I stopped skimming in SOWs saved my agency $12k last month
I used to just glance at the indemnification section until a client tried to hold me liable for their own third-party vendor screw-up. Now I actually read who covers what and it blocked a nightmare before it started. Anyone else have a contract line item that burned them before they learned to check it?

Learning that lesson the hard way builds character, they say.

Find where the payment schedule ties to specific deliverables, not dates. @jesse994 learning that lesson the hard way still stings but at least it builds character, right? I had a client pay 30% upfront, 70% on "completion" and then they dragged the project out six months past the deadline on purpose. Now I link every payment to a specific milestone with hard dates and penalties for delays. That clause alone saved me from chasing two months of unpaid work last year.

Honestly did the client push back hard on tying payments to hard dates not just milestones? Curious if they tried to argue it was "too rigid" or something before you held your ground. That move sounds like it paid off big time though.
