Question about using a standard NDA versus a custom one for client onboarding

Honestly, we used a free template NDA from a legal site for about 6 months, but it left gaps when a client in Portland tried to claim our standard analytics report was their 'confidential method'. We switched to a custom NDA drafted by a local lawyer for $500, and the specific clauses about work product ownership have saved us twice already. Has anyone else found a particular clause that's non-negotiable for protecting agency IP?

Ugh, that's a familiar pain.

Wait, you've actually felt that before? How did you even deal with it, @diana20? That sounds completely awful to go through more than once. I would have lost my mind if it happened to me a second time. The whole thing just seems like it would wear you down for good. I can't believe you had to face that kind of mess again.

Tbh, our old NDA was so vague a client tried to claim our coffee order was a trade secret. The "what's not confidential" list is my new best friend.
