NDA templates from the internet are not enough, ask my client in Austin
I signed on a new client last month without running their NDA by a lawyer. The template I pulled off a law blog looked fine. Then their former contractor came after us for IP that was never defined in the paper. We spent $1,800 on a cease and desist cleanup. That template saved me a week of work but cost me a month of headaches. Does anyone else just pay an attorney for every client agreement now, or is that overkill for small retainer work?

Wait, $1,800 for a cease and desist cleanup? That's wild. I mean, I get that lawyers are pricey, but that's basically a new roof on a small shed. You coulda bought a whole lot of coffee for that. Honestly, I woulda lost my mind if I dropped almost two grand just to fix a paper I got for free. That's like buying a used car and then finding out the engine's shot the next day. I'm not saying every contract needs a full legal team, but dang, that $1,800 coulda covered a lot of other stuff.
