My lawyer friend told me to always get a signed scope of work, even for small projects.
I thought it was overkill for a quick $500 website audit I hired out last month, but the freelancer tried to bill me for three extra 'strategy calls' we never agreed to. Having that one-page document saved me a huge headache and a couple hundred bucks. Anyone else had a simple contract save them from a scope creep situation?

Ugh, been there. A simple contract is just a clear set of rules for both sides. It stops those "well actually" bills before they start.

Yeah, those "well actually" bills are the worst.

My cousin had the exact same thing happen with a logo design. The artist kept adding "revision rounds" that were never in the original chat. A basic agreement is just good sense, it keeps everyone on the same page about what work is actually being paid for. It feels formal at first, but it protects both people. Your lawyer friend gave you solid advice.
