Client tried to ghost me after signing a $12k retainer

Had this one client last spring, signed a big retainer for a website redesign. Paid the first invoice then went totally silent for 6 weeks. I did all the initial discovery work, the wireframes, the whole plan. Finally tracked them down at their office in Austin. They said 'we just got busy, we'll get back to you.' Had to send a formal breach notice to get them to respond. Anyone else deal with clients who disappear after signing?

Oh come on, six weeks isn't really ghosting if you hadn't even started the actual build yet. You should've just paused the project and invoiced them again when they came back instead of jumping straight to a breach notice.

Have you ever actually tried invoicing a silent client and had them pay it without a signed change order first?
