Client keeps asking me to use contract templates from LegalZoom
Had a client last month who insisted on using a $49 contract template off LegalZoom for a $50k influencer deal. I told them flat out it wouldn't cover exclusivity or IP rights correctly. They used it anyway and now the influencer is posting for a competitor. Why do people think cheap templates can handle real agency work? Anyone else dealing with this trend?

Right? It's like they think contracts are just paperwork and not the actual framework that protects everyone. Did the client at least admit they messed up after the influencer jumped ship, or are they still blaming you for not "making it work" with the LegalZoom template? I swear some people see a price tag and think "cheaper means just as good" without understanding the legal side of things at all. Makes you wonder how many other corners they're cutting in their actual business too.

Man my buddy had the SAME thing happen with a construction contract, cost him $12k in legal fees to fix it.

You wonder if "cheaper means just as good" is really the issue here. Most small business contracts from those sites are fine for basic jobs, and a lot of these influencer deals aren't as complex as agencies make them out to be. Maybe the real problem is the client ignoring the exclusivity gap, not the template itself.
