Client deleted 6 months of drafts, my recovery file saved the account
Back in March I was working out of a shared office near downtown Austin when a client called, mad because their intern 'cleaned up' the project folder and wiped six months of contract drafts, all the redlines, everything. My heart dropped because I didn't have a local backup, just the cloud sync that mirrored the deletion. I sat there staring at the empty folder for like ten minutes, then remembered I had set up a versioning rule on our document system back in January, totally on a whim. That rule kept every saved version for 90 days, so I pulled the latest draft from two weeks prior and rebuilt the missing changes with the client on a call that same afternoon. Cost me a pizza and three hours of my evening, but the client renewed their retainer the next week. Do you guys keep any kind of automatic version snapshots for your client files, or is that just me being paranoid after this mess?
