Am I the only one who remembers when client deals were just handshakes?

Back in the day, we could close a deal with a handshake and a note. Now, with all the new rules, it feels like we need a lawyer for every tiny project.

Handshake deals really did feel more straightforward. Now every project needs a ten-page contract. What kicked this off, do you think? Was it one big lawsuit that scared everyone, or just a slow build of new rules? I miss when a person's word meant something. Can we ever get back to that, or is the legal stuff here to stay?

Feel you on this. It's like one bad apple ruined it for everyone, with lawsuits making everyone scared. Now even small jobs need all this paperwork because no one wants to get sued. Doubt we'll ever get back to just trusting someone's word, which sucks.

How many lawsuits actually killed the handshake deal for good?
