A paralegal in Dallas told me agencies get in trouble for one line in their client contracts, so I checked ours
Last Tuesday I was at a small agency meetup in Dallas and a paralegal named Renee mentioned that 3 out of 5 agencies she reviews have a clause that basically makes the client own everything the agency creates, even stuff made before the project started. I went home and read our standard contract, and sure enough, one sentence in section 4 could be read that way, so now I'm rewriting it before our next 6 clients sign. Has anyone here had a client actually try to claim ownership of old work because of sloppy contract wording, or is this more of a scare tactic from lawyers?
