My cousin laughed at me for keeping my old Lite-Brite, but she just spent $80 on a phone app that does the same thing
So my cousin came over to my place in Sacramento two weeks ago and saw my old Lite-Brite sitting on the shelf next to my TV. She actually laughed and said it was a waste of space. But here is the thing. She showed me this app on her phone that costs $80 a year, and all it does is let you poke colored dots on a screen to make pictures. I am not kidding. It is the exact same thing I did as a kid with little plastic pegs and black paper. The difference is my Lite-Brite still works after 30 odd years and hers stops working if the wifi goes out. I told her I would rather have the real thing any day, even if it takes up a shelf. She did not say much after that. Has anyone else had a moment like this where a newer version of a childhood toy just felt worse?
