Hot take: kids these days are right to roast us for how we learn the dances off YouTube
I was at my niece's graduation party in Mesa a few Saturdays back and she pulled up a TikTok dance to teach me, and I told her I'd practice at home first so I wouldn't look dumb. She looked at me like I said I was gonna mail a letter and said "you can't learn it alone in your room, you gotta do it wrong in front of people." And honestly she's right, because I spent 40 minutes in my kitchen rewinding the same 15 second clip and hit every move stiff as a board. But when she made me try it in front of her and her friends, I messed up the arm thing about 9 times and each time they yelled the timing at me and it clicked way faster. Everybody in this community loves to say you need to study the tutorial first and drill it solo before you dare try it at a party, and I think that advice is why we all look like robots. The messy in person part is the actual lesson, not some pre show homework. So when did practicing alone ever actually work for you, or am I the only one who needs an audience to stop dancing like a folding chair?
