Warning: I almost gave up on my rescue beagle's crate training until I saw one stat at the vet
I was ready to hand Milo back to the shelter after 3 weeks of him screaming all night in his crate, and I felt like a failure. Then our vet in Cincinnati pulled up a study saying rescue dogs often need 6 to 8 weeks to settle into a crate, not the 1 week I had in my head. She also said most of the dogs she sees fail crate training because people move too fast, not because the dog is hopeless. So I slowed way down, fed him every meal inside it, and stopped closing the door for the first 10 days. Night 41 was the first time he slept through without a peep, and now he runs to it on his own. If you rescued an adult dog, how long did it actually take before the crate stopped being a battle?
