My rescue terrier kept stealing food off the counter until a trainer in Reno asked one simple question
Tbh I spent about 3 months blaming my terrier for being sneaky, and I even moved all the food to the top shelf of the pantry. Then a trainer at a park in Reno watched us for 5 minutes and asked if I ever rewarded him for sitting quietly while I cooked. I hadn't, not once, so he had zero reason to stay down when there was chicken up there. Now I toss a treat down every couple minutes while I'm at the stove and he just parks himself by my feet. Has anyone else had a trainer point out something that obvious and felt a little dumb about it?
