Rant: paid $700 for a local ad slot in a podcast and got 3 clicks

Bought a 30 second spot on a podcast my buddy swears by. $700 for one episode. The host read it live and even laughed at my joke. Got 3 clicks and zero calls. My buddy still thinks it was a steal. Has anyone actually had a podcast ad pay off, or is it all just brand stuff?
