That Hulu ad with the dancing sock puppet stuck with me because a stranger explained it at a bus stop
Last week I was waiting for the 22 bus in Chicago when this older guy next to me started laughing at his phone. I peeked over (yeah, I'm nosy) and he was watching that weird Hulu ad with the sock puppet doing a workout routine. I asked what was so funny and he said he'd been in marketing for 30 years, and that ad is a masterclass in making you feel like you're in on a joke. He pointed out the puppet never says the product name, it just stares at the camera for 2 seconds too long. According to him, that awkward pause is on purpose so your brain goes 'wait, what?' and you remember it later. I've seen that ad like 6 times since and now I can't unsee it. Does anyone else have an ad that a random person ruined (or explained) for you forever?
