Hot take: that Liberty Mutual ad with the emu got me thinking about why I remember it and not the actual insurance stuff
My wife and I watched about 3 hours of football on Sunday and I swear the same Liberty Mutual spot ran at least 8 times. I couldn't tell you one thing about their rates or coverage, but I can describe that emu riding in a car like it happened to me personally. It bugs me that the ad works on me in a way that has nothing to do with what they're selling. Is that the point now, or am I just old and missing the actual pitch?
The emu thing isn't new though, Liberty Mutual has been running that "LiMu Emu" campaign since like 2019 or so, which actually backs up your point even more. They're not trying to sell you on rates in a 30 second spot, they're just trying to get their name stuck in your head so when you shop for insurance later they pop up first. It's annoying but it's working exactly how they planned, and that name recall is the whole game.
