Group chat ad vs billboard ad for my cousin's lawn gig, and the difference was wild
My cousin runs a tiny lawn cutting thing in Mesa and he tried two ads last month, one was a cheap $40 boosted post with a blurry photo of a mower, the other was a $350 banner on a local garage sale page with a real before and after shot of a nasty yard off Broadway. The boosted post got 200 views and zero calls, while the banner pulled 14 texts in 2 days, and I think the before and after picture did all the heavy lifting. So is the real lesson here that ugly ads just die no matter where you put them?
$40 for a blurry mower pic versus $350 for a nasty yard glow up, and the glow up won by 14 texts? Shocking. Next you're gonna tell me people scroll past ads that look like they were shot with a potato. The before and after did the work because nobody cares about your cousin's mower, they care about their own jungle of a yard getting fixed. A boosted post with no hook is just burning money in a nicer font. My guess is the garage sale page also had people already in "buying stuff" mode instead of random folks doomscrolling.
