That crying dog ASPCA ad from 2014 is lazy and it worked on me anyway
Honestly I rolled my eyes at that Sarah McLachlan spot for a decade, but last Tuesday at 1am I finally gave them $19 a month. The part that gets me is they never even show the dog getting better, just the cage and the song on loop. Does anyone else think the sad pet ads are cheap shots, or am I just weak?
Man, that ad is not lazy at all, it does exactly what it's supposed to do. They figured out that showing a scared dog in a cage with that song makes people open their wallets, and it worked on you at 1am just like it worked on millions of others. If it was really lazy they would have slapped some cute puppy footage together and called it a day, but instead they went straight for the gut punch and it still hits ten years later. That's not a cheap shot, that's just good marketing aimed right at your soft spot.
