The Chili's Baby Back Ribs jingle played in my head for 3 days straight after my car radio died
My car radio crapped out last Tuesday somewhere around mile 40 on I-65 and for some reason my brain just queued up that Baby Back Ribs song on loop the whole way home. I tried humming other jingles to drown it out but that one kept winning, even got stuck in my head while I was standing in line at the DMV two days later. Does anyone have a surefire way to kill a jingle or am I just stuck with this until I hear a worse one?
That jingle is actually in A flat major and uses a rising fourth right at the start, which is why it burrows in so deep. Your brain latches onto that jump because it never quite resolves where you expect, so it keeps replaying the loop trying to finish it. The trick that worked for me after a week of the Mentos song was singing the whole thing out loud, start to finish, with the real ending, a couple times in a row. Once your head hears the song actually close out, the loop stops having a reason to run. You can also try chewing gum while it plays in your head, the jaw motion messes with the same circuit your inner voice uses. Three days is rough but you are not stuck with it forever.
