My boss in Denver swore the 1998 Budweiser frogs jingle was "just a fad" and I almost believed him
Back in 2019 my old boss at a Denver ad agency told me nobody would remember the Budweiser frogs by 2025, and he was dead wrong. I pulled up a focus group in February and 9 out of 12 people under 30 hummed the whole "Bud, Weis, Er" thing without any help. He argued the jingle only worked because of the TV spots, but I found a 1995 radio cut that still got the same reaction. So now I want to know, does any old jingle actually age out, or do we just carry them forever?
Used to figure jingles died off once the kids who grew up with them got old, but that focus group thing flipped me. There's a 7 Up "uncola" radio spot from like 1976 and my nephew knew it off some TikTok sound, had no clue where it came from. Seems like the catchy ones just get passed down through weird channels now, commercials, memes, whatever. Some stuff sticks forever even when nobody remembers the actual ad.
