I wrote off the FreeCreditReport band as a ripoff for 12 years until I actually listened to the lyrics
For over a decade I skipped past that FreeCreditReport.com band every time it came on because I figured it was just another scammy jingle designed to get me to hand over my info. Last week my buddy put on a YouTube video breaking down 2000s commercials and I actually sat through the whole thing instead of clicking away, and I realized those guys were genuinely good musicians. The singer's voice has this weird half-sarcastic tone like he knows the whole thing is a joke, and the guy drumming on the desk in the coffee shop ad is actually keeping real time. I went back and rewatched the pirate one about 6 times because the harmony on the last chorus is tighter than most stuff on the radio back then. What gets me is people call it the worst jingle ever when the whole point was that it was supposed to be annoyingly catchy, and it worked so well that we are still arguing about it 15 years later. So my question is, are there other jingles from that era you dismissed as trash that actually hold up once you listen past the first 10 seconds?
