Can we talk about the guy in my shop who does the Mentos and Diet Coke bit every single time someone gets hired
So we hired a new kid at the shop 2 weeks ago and my lead tech Greg busts out the same Mentos and Coke thing he has done for every new hire since like 2016. Full performance, safety glasses on and everything, and he even does the little bow at the end like he invented it. We all stand there watching this 2 liter bottle turn into a fountain in the parking lot off Grand Ave and I swear the kid was more confused than impressed. Here is my gripe. I get that these old ads are burned into our brains, but reenacting them is only funny if you add something. Greg does the exact same bit word for word and I think deep down he just likes the attention. I have been wanting to do the old Budweiser frogs but with the parts guys, standing behind the counter croaking out the names, and I think that would actually land. What ads do you all redo that still get a real laugh, and does anyone have a bit that flopped hard?
Wait, he wore safety glasses for this? Like actual safety glasses, on his face, for a parking lot soda fountain? That is the part that got me. The man is out there doing a full science lab setup to drop candy in a bottle, and then he bows like he just landed a jet. Two whole weeks and that kid has watched this man treat a 2016 ad campaign like it was the moon landing. The Budweiser frogs thing with the parts guys would kill me though, please do that one before Greg tries to claim it.
