Why does everyone blame the algorithm when their own ad frequency is the real problem?
I work in a warehouse and we track everything, so when I kept seeing the same Chevy truck ad 14 times during one Monday Night Football game, I started counting. Everyone in my feed complains about the algorithm, but the real issue is ad frequency caps that networks set way too high. For example, I saw a Geico ad 7 times in 30 minutes on YouTube last week, and that is not the algorithm, that is a deliberate setting. People keep saying it is the algorithm because they do not know how ad buying works, but I have watched the same 15 second spot back to back on Hulu. Why do we let them blame robots when the real problem is a settings menu nobody wants to touch?
