Dropped $500 on a used TiVo in 2009 and it saved me from cable ad hell, now I just mute everything
Back in 2009 I paid $500 for a used TiVo Series 3 off a guy in Phoenix, and it was the best money I ever spent on anything entertainment related. Being able to skip every commercial with a 30 second button felt like a cheat code, and I stopped seeing the same car dealership jingle 40 times a week. Now I stream everything and the ads are sneaking back in, and I keep getting hit with stuff I already saw on TV a decade ago. My nephew watched me sit through a 15 second unskippable spot on a free app and asked why I did not just pay to remove them. Half the fun of old TV ads was how bad they were, like the local mattress guy yelling at the camera, and now they are all targeted and quiet. Did anyone here get into DVRs early or did you all just suffer through the breaks?
