Why does my phone think I need a $75 brass backscratcher after I text my sister about her mosquito bites?
I mentioned my sister's mosquito bites in a text to her on Tuesday and by Wednesday my feed was full of this $75 brass backscratcher from a site called something like Veridian Goods, which is apparently a thing people buy. My husband says it's just random ads and the phone isn't listening, but I swear the timing is way too on the nose and I want to know what everyone else thinks. Is it actually the mic listening or is it just coincidence with how these ad networks work?
I mean this kind of stuff happens to me with stuff I never even typed anywhere, like I'll be talking out loud about needing new tires and then boom, tire ads. Maybe it's just the ad networks being creepy good at guessing from location and search stuff, but the timing always feels too perfect. My thing is even if the mic isn't on, these apps share so much data between them that it kind of doesn't matter how they got it, the end result is the same and it's weird either way.
