TIL most 'accidental fame' people actually had some kind of strategy behind it
I used to think viral fame was just pure luck, like someone tripped into a camera and woke up with 10 million views. But after watching about 15 of these cases over the last month, I noticed a pattern. Almost every person had been posting regularly for months or years before that big blowup. One girl I looked into had 200 videos before one finally stuck. It's not quite planned, but it's not random either. Has anyone else noticed how many of these folks had a decent foundation before they went viral?

...and it's the same thing with pretty much anything that looks like it came out of nowhere. People see a small business blow up or someone get a big break and assume it was luck, but if you dig into it there's usually months or years of steady work nobody saw. Same with that musician everyone thought was an overnight success - turns out they had been playing open mics for five years and had a whole local following before one video tipped over. The internet just makes it look instant because we only see the moment it breaks.
