The 'hide your kids' guy from Alabama never saw a dime, and that's not even the worst part
I keep seeing folks in this sub cheer when a random person blows up, like it's a lottery win. But the guy behind that Antoine Dodson interview in Huntsville back in 2010 got interviewed by a news crew, not a brand deal, and the song money went to a producer he never met, not him. That original clip has something like 100 million views now, and he was back driving a truck within a couple years. How many of you actually think going viral pays out, because I don't get where that idea comes from?
That whole story still bugs me whenever it comes up. Antoine got a few hundred bucks from the song and the producer kept the rest, and the guy was literally back to work while strangers were still making jokes with his face on them. Same thing happened to the "Charlie bit my finger" family, they sold the video years later for around $760k, but before that people were pulling in ad money off their kids without them seeing a cent. Going viral and getting paid are just two different things, and the money usually ends up with whoever was smart enough to grab the rights first. Nobody hands you a check just for being seen a lot. Feels bad for him, honestly.
