My dumb video of my cat trying to eat a strawberry hit 100k views and I don't get it...
I posted a 12 second clip on TikTok six months ago of my cat, Mochi, just sniffing a strawberry and then making this disgusted face. I thought maybe my friends would get a laugh. It sat at like 200 views for a week, then out of nowhere it just blew up. I woke up one morning and my phone was blowing up with notifications. I hit 100,000 views and it's still climbing. It's literally just my cat and a piece of fruit. I've tried to make actual good content since then, like videos of me painting or something, and those get maybe 50 views. It's so random and kind of annoying because the one thing that goes viral is the thing I put zero effort into. Has anyone else had a totally boring post go viral for no clear reason?

The internet is just weird like that sometimes. My kid's toy review from two years ago still gets random views while my actual projects get nothing. It feels like a lottery where the prize is mild confusion. You're definitely not alone in having the low effort thing take off.

Heard a similar story from my friend Jen. She spent a whole weekend editing this artsy travel vlog and it got like 40 views. Then her cat knocked over a plant while she was filming something else and she just threw that clip online, it now has 300k.

Totally get that feeling. My cousin filmed his dog sneezing once and it got like half a million views. He tried to make a whole series about the dog's "adventures" after that and every single one flopped. The internet just latches onto the weird little moments.
