My dumb cat photo got 2 million views overnight

I posted a picture of my cat stuck in a cardboard box on a Tuesday. Nothing special, just a funny angle. Woke up Wednesday morning to 2 million views and 50k shares. My phone wouldn't stop buzzing for three days straight. Has anyone else had a random post blow up and change nothing in your actual life?

Seems like you're kind of underselling it... 50k shares is definitely more than "nothing special" for most people. 2 million views in one night would have anyone's phone going crazy for days. I had a similar thing happen with a video of my dog trying to eat his own reflection, ended up with like half a million views but the only real change was my cousin asking me to be in her wedding slideshow.

You mentioned the cousin wedding slideshow thing, which actually gets at something I've wondered about with viral moments. Does that kind of temporary attention ever translate into anything you actually wanted, or is it just random noise that fades fast? @charlie_ellis did you end up feeling like the 500k views was worth anything beyond the slideshow invite?
