My daughter's 8 second video of our cat got 2 million views on TikTok and now a cereal company wants to pay me
Three weeks ago my 11 year old filmed our fat cat Gerald sliding off the couch in our living room in Akron, and she posted it without asking me. By Friday it had 2.1 million views, and a company emailed offering $400 to use it in an ad. I've got no clue how any of this works, is $400 normal for something like this or am I getting lowballed?
Worth knowing that the $400 is probably only for a limited license, meaning they can use the clip in one ad for a set time, not own it forever. That's a big difference, because if the ad does well and runs for a year or more, they'd normally pay way more than four hundred bucks. Also, since your 11 year old filmed it, you technically own the footage as her parent, so you're the one who has to sign anything. I'd ask them straight up what the terms are before agreeing to anything.
