Hot take: Does going viral actually ruin your life or make it better?

I keep seeing these stories about people like the "Dancing Cop" from Chicago who got famous overnight from a 10-second video. Some say it opened doors for them, like book deals and TV spots. But others talk about losing their jobs or dealing with stalkers. I am curious if you think accidental viral fame is more of a blessing or a curse for regular folks, and does it matter if the post was funny or serious?

Shook my head reading that "Can Opener Girl" comment because I completely forgot about her until now. That detail about people screaming "POP IT OPEN" at her in the grocery store actually sounds terrifying and so real. Viral fame is a total gamble where you don't even get to pick the game you're playing. The funny ones might seem harmless but imagine being known forever for a joke you made at 2am on a Tuesday. And serious posts can backfire too if people twist your story or start demanding updates every single day. I'd rather stay boring and unknown than have strangers dissecting every part of my life because of one lucky video.

So... did anyone actually ask the "Can Opener Girl" from 2019 if she wanted her 15 minutes of fame? Bet she can't walk through a grocery store without someone screaming "POP IT OPEN!" at her. Viral fame is just digital Russian roulette with a side of doxxing anxiety. You either get a sponsored trip to Dubai or end up crying in a Target parking lot because someone recorded you buying toilet paper.

Wonder if she's ever tried to just lean into the joke and monetize it or if she straight up hates everyone who brings it up.
