Warning: That local mechanic off Fourth Street cost me $220 and made things worse
I saw a ton of people on here recommending Pete's Auto on Fourth, so I took my 2005 Tacoma there for a transmission flush. They charged me $220 and three days later my truck started slipping in second gear. I took it to a different shop on Central and they said the fluid they used was the wrong spec for my model year. I'm not saying all local shops are bad, but maybe we should stop hyping up places just because they're local and actually check what they're putting in our cars. Has anyone else had a bad experience with a heavily recommended local garage around here?

Yeah patriciareed you nailed it with "brushed off every complaint." That's the biggest red flag with any shop if they won't even hear you out. In my experience with my own business, if something goes wrong you fix it or refund it right away before they post about it online. Hope you can get Toyota to match the right fluid for you man, that truck should run forever with proper care.

And that shop (Pete's) brushed off every complaint, classic move.

Did you ever get a vibe that Pete's just doesn't care about repeat customers? Once they have your money, that's it... you're on your own. I've seen that play out so many times with shops like that. They think they can just shrug off everyone and business will keep rolling in. But word gets around, you know... people talk.
