Took me 3 trips to find the right brake fluid for my 94 Tacoma in ABQ
Went to 2 auto parts stores on Central and neither had DOT 3 in stock without some weird additive package. Third stop at a little shop off San Mateo and the guy behind the counter asked what year and trim I had. He pulled out a dusty bottle from the back and said 'this one's been sitting here for 6 years, it'll work fine.' Did the bleed in my driveway last Sunday, pedal feels solid now. Anyone else run into phantom supply issues for older trucks around here?
Funny thing, I had the same runaround last month trying to find gear oil for my 88 pickup. Hit the O'Reilly on Juan Tabo and the kid looked at me like I was asking for rocket fuel, then the NAPA on Lomas had one quart left behind a bunch of synthetic stuff. That old dusty bottle thing is real though, the back shelf stuff at those little shops is usually the good stuff nobody thinks to ask for. My buddy swears the supply thing is because everything now gets made for newer trucks and the old spec stuff just sits in warehouses forever.
